Turkey Creek Ranch, Colorado

Reminiscing about my time in Colorado … one of the most memorable days with my Nikon was at the Turkey Creek Ranch recreational facility just south of Fort Carson, Colorado.  The ranch has been around since the early 1860s, and thousands of years before that, home to hunter and gatherers of the Middle Archaic period, dating back to around 2000 BCE–1500 CE where archaeologists have found various prehistoric dwelling sites and a wealth of rock art which covers the surrounding area.

The camping grounds and the rest of the land is free to roam save for the fenced off areas for boarding horses.  If you’re a photographer, and you’re looking to take a long walk and some breathtaking photographs, then visiting the ranch, during the June through September months might be a well planned adventure.
